Astana hosted the XIVth International Anti-Counterfeit Forum, one of the largest platforms for discussing intellectual property protection and combating the illicit trade of counterfeit goods.
During the forum, participants shared practical experiences from different countries in addressing counterfeit products. Particular attention was given to the regulation of marketplaces, their legal status, and the liability of online platforms for counterfeit goods offered by sellers.
Another topic of significant interest was the discussion of product authenticity verification mechanisms through mandatory product labeling, which is increasingly becoming one of the key tools in combating illicit trade.
Despite the ongoing development of legal regulations, Kazakhstan’s legislation still contains certain gaps, particularly regarding the liability of online platforms and the effective enforcement of intellectual property rights in e-commerce. At the same time, the discussions demonstrated that these issues remain a priority for both government authorities and the professional community, giving reason to expect further legislative improvements in the near future.
Combating counterfeiting requires a comprehensive approach and the joint efforts of government authorities, rights holders, and businesses
